ProteinPints Ice Cream Review: A Budget Dessert That Fuels Your Gains

We all know that when you’re dieting, cravings tend to hit like crazy, and normal ice cream isn’t exactly macro-friendly. While wandering through my local Target, staring longingly at the ice creams I couldn’t have while cutting, I stumbled across something new: ProteinPints, a protein-packed ice cream. I was a bit skeptical at first and wondered if it was worth the hype or just another disappointing “healthy” food.

At about $6.99 a pint at Target, ProteinPints costs significantly more than basic store brands. You can get a standard pint of a budget ice cream for $3-$4.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: Isn’t this supposed to be budget friendly?

Fair point. But compared to premium brands like Ben & Jerry’s or Häagen-Dazs, it’s in the same ballpark. Additionally, when you take a look at the macros, you’ll understand that it’s way worth it. Given the 30g of protein, reduced sugar, and 480 calories per container, it destroys regular ice cream brands in terms of macros.

Take Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough pint, one serving of that has about the same calories as an entire pint of ProteinPints’ Cookie Dough. There’s only about 10 grams of protein in Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough pint, 3 times less than what you get with ProteinPints.

Macros are great and all, but the real question is: how does it taste compared to regular ice cream? Honestly, I was impressed. I’ve tried the Cookie Dough and Chocolate flavors, and Cookie Dough easily takes the win. The Chocolate was solid, but a little plain next to the richness of Cookie Dough. If you’ve ever had a protein-heavy snack, you know that chalky texture is usually the trade-off. Not here. ProteinPints is surprisingly creamy, with zero chalkiness. If someone handed me a pint and told me it had 30 grams of protein, I’d probably laugh and ask to see the label, because it tastes way too good for that to be true!
